I have found that the Singer Heavy Duty 4452 with 110 stitch applications is a very good machine for all types of material. My thought is to pick the heaviest duty machine that will also accommodate lace fabric. This way you have the heavy duty for leather and jean and upholstery material but you also have a machine that can aid in your daintier sewing projects like lace and satin and chiffon. This machine also makes button holes and does not need a lot of accessories to sew just about any project you could think of.
Of course you would change the needles on the machine, depending on the fabric you are using. With heavy duty leather you would use a heavy duty needle. If you are sewing chiffon fabric, then you want a light weight thin needle that will not snag your fabric.
This machine seems to come with many accessories included in the package.
