Things To Think About When Modifying A Pattern

Make your own pattern

One thing you need to check when you use a pattern is that the size you have chosen actually will fit you. There seem to be some irregularities in patterns. Such as it may accommodate the width of the pattern but a little thing like the neck, it doesn’t fit. Or if you are making an apron, the ties for the neck have not been calculated to aid the different neck sizes.

Example is the Kwik Set Patterns Misses Aprons. The pattern shows a one piece strap to fasten to each side of the neckline where you can put the apron over your head to wear it. If you check out the length of material they have allowed for the neck hole, perhaps a child could fit it. Therefore, I modified the strap to be two pieces, attached one on each side of the neckline. Now the apron can be tied on. And it will fit any neck size.

This is just one example of a pattern that you need to think about measurements before following the directions to the letter.
