When having rips and tears in clothing…mending those tears is a great sewing project.
What you need to mend a garment:
- Thread to match garment
- Bobbin to match
- Pins
The first garment to mend is a pair of workout pants. The tear is in the seam of the pants so mending should be easy.
Steps to mend tear in pants seam:
- Turn pants wrong side out
- Locate the tear
- Pin the seam
- Sew along the seam being sure to close the hole
- remove the pins while you sew.
- Be sure and back sew on each end
- Turn pants right-side out
- Check for hole in seam
The work out pants are now hole free and ready to wear.
The next project is a jacket that the zipper is coming out and the pocket is coming off.
- Next you pin the zipper on both sides of the zipper
- Additionally, the pocket has to be pinned to zipper too to close up the hole in the pocket.
- Also, pin the pocket across the front of the jacket to the opening.
- Begin sewing along the zipper.
- Continue sewing until you sew past the spot where the zipper was coming off and back stitch.
- Then rotate the jacket and sew the front of the pocket to the jacket.
You have now sewn the jacket back together as good as new.
Often repairing a garment can give you a lot satisfaction and feeling of accomplishment.
