Would you like a fun skirt to wear with easy sewing and great look? Find that favorite pair of jeans that the knees are out of and let’s make your favorite skirt.
Items needed:
- Old comfortable pair of jeans
- Cotton plain or print fabric 45″ wide
- Iron
- Ironing board
- Sewing scissors
- Thread
- Sewing machine
Cutting the pattern:
- Cut the legs off in a V shape with the V in the center right below the zipper.
- Depending on how long u want the skirt, cut your fabric by measuring around the circumference of the V
- Now if you leave the material 45″ wide, your skirt will be 45″ long.
Putting together the skirt:
- Take the cotton material and stitch two basting stitches ½” down and ½” apart at the top of the material.
- At the bottom of the material iron a ¼” fold with fold to wrong side of fabric.
- Stitch down the ¼” fold.
- Now you are ready to pull the two threads on the top of the fabric very gently to make a ruffle.
- Then pin the gathered skirt to the Jean cut off with right sides together.
- Be sure and start pinning at the back center seam of the Jean cut off.
- When you have pinned all the way back to where you started, if there is material in excess. Wait til you sew it together before you trim anything off.
- Stitch ⅝” around sewing the skirt to the Jean cut off.
- If the back has a lot of excess material, trim it down to the point you can make a ⅝” seam up the back of the skirt and sew down to the Jean cutoff.
- Turn the skirt right side out.
The skirt is complete and ready to try on. From here if you decide you would like the skirt shorter, you can hand hem the skirt or machine sew.
