How to Sew A Fairy Dress for Decoration

List of Things Needed to sew a Fairy Dress:

  1. Fabric from an old formal or wedding dress. Something that is lacy.
  1.  Sewing thread
  1.  Copy paper or butcher paper to make pattern
  1.  Broach pin
  1.  Coated metal wire to bend for miniature hanger

Instructions for the top of the dress:

  1. Using the copy or butcher paper, make a pattern for the top of the dress by using a barbie doll size tank top to trace the shape. Make the neck a V neck rather than tank. Make the front one piece and the back one pieces both with V necks.
  1.  Be sure and leave a ⅝” seam allowance. First make the top 4” wide and 3” tall. This will allow for seams. 
  1.  With right sides together, sew the front to the back on the side seams and at the shoulder seams  of the top. Fold the neck and sleeves under ¼” when you sew the seams together. If they stay without stitching you can skip step #4.
  1.  Fold the neck down ¼” and tops stitch to finish the edge. Do the same thing with the arm openings. 
  1.  Now you are ready to attach the skirt.

Instructions for the skirt:

  1.  Cut 1” wide and 5 ½” long strips of the wedding dress or formal lace material. Cut 10 strips.
  1. With the tops overlapping make a string of the strips. Pin them together and either handstitch a loose stitch or use the loose setting on your sewing machine so you can gather the tops. (before you stitch see if 10 is too many or not enough to make a skirt for the top.)
  1.  Pull the thread you have sewn and gather to strips until it forms a round skirt at the top.
  2.  Sew the skirt to the top.
  1.  Now take the broach pin and fasten it at the waist.

Your fairy dress is complete. Now how to make the hanger.

Instructions on making a fairy hanger:

  1.  Take the coated metal and bend it into the shape of a clothes hanger. You can twist the end of the metal around the neck of the hanger. Be sure and make a hook to hang the hanger on.
  1.  Hang the Fairy Dress on the Hanger.

You have completed the Fairy Dress sewing project. Now you can make more and decorate your room.
