Handkerchief Burp Cloth 12/2018 by A

The baby is on its way soon and you are beginning to nest. This cute and practical sewing project is just the thing. When my youngest granddaughter was on the way, her mother came up with this idea and my mother had the handkerchief collection to carry out the project. Such a nice heirloom item that is useful and decorative.

List of Items Needed:

  1. Handkerchiefs
  2. Terry cloth material or an old chenille bedspread to cut in pieces
  3. Thread either to match colors or contrast
  4. Sewing Pins
  5. Measuring Tape
  6. Scissors

Instructions:

First we start with a pattern. We will use the size of the handkerchief as the size of the burp cloth.

Second cut the terry cloth material or the chenille bedspread the width and length of the handkerchief plus ½”.

Third pin the material to the handkerchief making sure to leave the edge of the handkerchief free on the top side. (Place the wrong sides together before you sew.) Fold the material edge under to finish that edge when it is caught in the stitches. This will allow for a ruffled pretty edge on the handkerchief side of the burp cloth.

Fourth stitch the handkerchief to the material with a straight stitch on the right side of the handkerchief. Sew completely around the handkerchief.

There, you now have your finished Handkerchief Burp Cloth and you sewed it in minutes!
